About Museo Reina Sofía

The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía houses a large collection of national and international art, from the late nineteenth century to the present day. Guernica, by Pablo Picasso, is the nucleus of a collection of works by the artist, and other prominent figures such as Maria Blanchard, Louise Bourgeois, Georges Braque, Marcel Broodthaers, Trisha Brown, Alexander Calder, Salvador Dalí, Robert And Sonia Delaunay, Esther Ferrer, Juan Gris, Yves Klein, René Magritte, Joan Miró, Antoni Muntadas, Gerhard Richter, Richard Serra and Mira Schendel, among others.

The museum has three locations: the main one, an old hospital built by the architects Hermosilla and Sabatini, inaugurated as a Museum in 1992 and extended in 2005 by Jean Nouvel; and the Palacios of Velázquez and Cristal in Parque del Retiro.
