About Casa de la Seda
The "Casa de la Seda" (House of Silk) is located on the main floor of the Casa del Velers, the actual headquarters of The Art of Silk Association, a baroque building in the Ribera neighborhood, bordering the Gothic Quarter and right next to the Palau de la Musica Catalana.
It was built between 1758 and 1763 by the architect Joan Garrido Bertran and is catalogued as a National Cultural Heritage.
The original engravings on the facade from the XVIII century have been conserved.
Both the exterior and the interior of the house boast elegance and solemnity up to the historic splendor and social representation guild members reached during the eighteenth century, its most brilliant period.
The headquarters of The Art of Silk Association were admired by its contemporaries and today we have the chance to enjoy its coveted legacy.
